Chama Valley Independent Schools
ESCALANTE MID-HIGH SCHOOL
This project incorporated a small existing school into the construction of a new mid-high school for the Chama Valley. A new commons area/cafeteria uses high ceilings, a full wall of windows, and exposed trusses to create a dramatic multi-purpose space for the relatively small school. Clerestory windows running the length of the corridors bring light into the depths of the building. A significant challenge was coordinating all demolition and new construction work in a way that allowed the school to remain operable throughout all phases of construction. Despite the challenges, we worked very closely with the school administration and the contractor to ensure the project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
TIERRA AMARILLA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Tierra Amarilla Elementary takes advantage of the beautiful views of Brazos Peak. The site offered space to make a separate bus and student drop-off locations to avoid congestion and improve safety. The new, single story school used pre-engineered steel buildings with stucco siding and a standing seam metal roof to stay within budget and handle the severe weather requirements. The project includes Classrooms, Administrative area, Media Center and Multipurpose Room with a Warming Kitchen.
