Vigil & Associates was retained to produce a new Master Plan for Santa Fe High School by Santa Fe Public Schools. After completion of the Plan and identification of the priorities, work commenced on the replacement of the Administration / Student Services building to be followed closely by the replacement of the Cafeteria / Commons building with a two-phased approach. The first phase Administration Building will contain a new secure Campus Entry and Reception Area near the principal’s and administrative staff offices. The second part of the Project, identified as Phase IA, is the provision of a new Commons/Kitchen building. The new buildings are designed to blend within the existing campus context but create new dynamic forms that present an exciting, iconic image for the school.


The Nye Early Childhood Center is a preschool for special-needs (autistic, medically fragile) children and typical peers. It was located within an elementary school, but the need for expansion of both programs required it to be moved off site. Vigil & Associates worked closely with Santa Fe Public Schools to design a new facility using an existing school site.

The new Nye Center includes 11 classrooms, 2 indoor play spaces, multipurpose room, physical therapy suite, therapy offices, administration and staff areas, warming kitchen and support spaces. The new facility will serve 200 students in the Nye program and 55 students in the Head Start program, with space for future expansion. There will be a variety of outdoor spaces around the facility, providing many opportunities for active & quiet play, structured activities, educational activities, peer interaction and exploration of nature.


Ramirez Thomas Elementary Additions & Renovations began with a complete building systems analysis. Phase I of this is a multi-phase project consisted of a complete HVAC conversion, admin renovation/expansion, kitchen and cafeteria expansion, classroom addition, mechanical room addition, electrical and IT upgrades, new roof coating, and new shade canopy for student pick-up/drop-off. In all, approximately 48,500 sf of the existing school was renovated and 3,750 sf of new construction was added all in a very short time frame.

Almost all work for Phase I had to be completed during the summer break, so the construction schedule was extremely condensed. The scope also increased during construction, as SFPS opted to add infrastructure for all-new SMART Boards in every classroom, a complete paint of interior spaces and other upgrades. Vigil & Associates worked closely with SFPS and Jaynes Corporation throughout the summer to ensure construction stayed on schedule, even with scope increases.
